We are a group of Business Administrator level 3 Apprentices and are currently studying at The National Business College. As part of our qualification, we are studying project management, and as a group, we decided to put what we have been learning into practice by running a live project.
We decided to raise money for a local charity and after researching charities in the area we chose to support The Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice. We wanted to help raise funds whilst learning the basic project management skills needed for the qualification and for our future careers. We arranged to go down to Russell House to see the work that they do and how valuable fundraising is to them.
Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice’s aim is to support any family confronted with the news that their child has a life-shortening condition, however, wherever and whenever they are needed. By providing superb nursing care, hydrotherapy, creative therapy, days out, memory making, end-of-life care, bereavement support and counselling. Forget Me Not helps families make the most of every moment they have together.
It was agreed that we would join in The Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice Colour Run which was held on the 8th June 2024 at Greenhead Park, Huddersfield. We enjoyed taking part in the Colour Run and thought it was a vibrant and joyous occasion which people from the local community were able to get involved with. As the apprentice project team, we raised over £1,650 for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice just from the Colour Run! Our original target was £250 so this was fantastic.
Within the project management module, we needed to run our own live project which we decided to host a coffee morning and bake sale at the National Business College on the 12th June 2024. We would like to thank everyone who attended the bake sale, brought in baked goods and donated! From the coffee morning and bake sale we raised over £160!
Through both events, we managed to not only gain valuable project management skills but raised £1816.16 for a fabulous local charity!
The project team consisted of Joseph Ryan (Skelmanthorpe Family Doctors), Katie Roberts (SimplyBiz), Toby Phillips (Vital Consular), Alex Leaf (Leeds Welding Company), Harry Thompson (S&G Response), Ellie Chapman (Kirklees Council) and Mary Johnson (National Business College). The Apprentices were supported by Keely Carleton and Elizabeth Bates from National Business College.
