As an apprentice, you’ll gain practical experience while working alongside experienced healthcare professionals and administration staff.
What You’ll Do
As part of the Care Navigation and Patient Services Team, you will:
- Provide high-quality administrative and reception support to patients, visitors, GPs and allied health professionals.
- Deliver a professional telephone service, taking accurate messages and directing enquiries appropriately.
- Welcome patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
- Act as a key point of contact between patients and the wider practice team.
- Respond to patient queries, concerns and complaints professionally, escalating issues where required.
- Maintain clean, tidy and welcoming reception, waiting and meeting areas.
- Recognise situations requiring urgent medical attention and refer patients to the appropriate clinician or emergency service.
- Provide accurate information and guidance to patients and visitors.
- Manage and update appointment booking systems accurately.
- Support patient registrations and deductions in line with practice procedures.
- Assist with repeat prescription processing and distribution.
- Carry out a variety of administrative duties, including:
- Filing
- Photocopying
- Email correspondence
- Text messaging
- Preparing letters for posting
- General clerical support
- Create and update patient records on the clinical system.
- Help maintain stock levels of stationery and other supplies across the practice.

Training
An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be dedicated to training and study.
